Which size?

Size Best for
6 mm (1/4 in) Learning and long practice sessions. Lighter, easier to control, less fatigue over a few hundred shots.
8 mm (5/16 in) The balanced default. About 2.0 g. Stable in flight, forgiving across a wide range of bands. Start here if you are unsure.
10 mm (3/8 in) More mass downrange. Pair it with heavier bands — light bands will not move it properly.

Matching ammo to your bands

Ammo and band weight move together. If the ball feels like it is being thrown rather than driven, go thicker on the band. If the draw is heavy but the ball is not noticeably faster, go lighter on the ammo before you go heavier on the band.

A common starting point across the shooting community is 8 mm steel with around 0.5 mm bands.

Care

Carbon steel is not stainless. Keep the pack dry and closed; light surface dulling over time is normal and does not affect flight. If a batch gets wet, dry it before storing.

Roundness matters more than most people expect — inconsistent spheres scatter groups regardless of how clean your release is.

Care & safety

Inspect your bands before every session. Replace a set at the first sign of fraying, small tears, white stress lines or a softer draw — a band that lets go mid-draw can injure you. With normal use a set lasts several months, but storage matters more than shot count.

Keep spare bands out of direct sunlight, cool and sealed. UV light and temperature cycling age latex whether you shoot it or not.
